By Gloria Starr- Publisher of Macaroni Kid Bowie, Crofton & Odenton August 5, 2022

The Kartrite Resort and the Villa Roma Resort in the Sullivan Catskills are every kid and busy parent's dream! There is so much to do and explore in the hotels and so many activities that you can do outside of the hotel as well. I would call the Sullivan Catskills the hidden gem in New York that you never knew you needed... until now! You could choose the hotel of your choice, but you honestly can not go wrong with either the Kartrite Resort or the Villa Roma, because they have everything you need to have a family vacation in a place that feels like a home away from home. Here are 5 things you should know about taking a family vacation in the Sullivan Catskills.

The Kartrite Resort and Indoor Water Park in the Sullivan Catskills.

1) The Amazing Indoor Water Park at The Kartrite Resort!

This indoor water park was a huge hit during our stay at the Kartrite Resort! There were plenty of places to sit and relax when we wanted a quick break, which is a must! Lifejackets are everywhere for little kids who can't swim. There are tons of water slides for single riders and for going down in an inner tube. It also had a water obstacle course, surfing, and an area for non-swimmers to be able to enjoy themselves!

2) S'more's!

The Kartrite is known as the S'more Capital of the world! In 2019, The Kartrite successfully made the world's largest s'more! One of the things I love about the resort is the four huge fire pits outside in the middle of the courtyard just for making s'mores! The s'mores were the best way to wrap the day up at the end of the night. The Kartrite Resort sells s'more kits that you can purchase to make the s'mores and the fire pits are already set up for you each night! There is plenty of room at the fire pits for many guests to take part in making the s'mores as well.

In the outdoor area of The Kartrite, they also had a kids' play area and large size chess boards and connect four to play as well while you are out enjoying the crackling of the fire and the serenity you feel just by sitting out there. Inside The Kartrite included an indoor ropes course, an arcade with virtual reality games, bowling, nightly kid movies, and plenty of places to eat and shop!

3) Tons of Family Fun at the Villa Roma!

The Villa Roma Resort was another amazing hotel in the area with so many activities for your family, you would never need to leave the resort! The Villa Roma offers activities such as horseback riding, bumper boats, go karts, skiing, snow tubing, multiple outdoor pools with splash pads, indoor pools, indoor play areas, arts and crafts stations, arcades, and so much more!

One of the best parts of the Villa Roma is its stage where they put on comedy and music shows for the guests in the evening and if you have a smaller child, you can drop them off at the Villa Roma child care center! The dining was incredible with 5 course meals in a magnificent dining hall. The Villa Roma also has shuttles to the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts Museum and the Lander's River Trips if you can pull yourself away from all of the fun to see the beauty of the Catskills.

4) River Raft Adventures!

Lander's River Trips was an incredible experience and would be so fun for kids elementary age and up! We were able to go, pick out life jackets and a raft with paddles and go down the river for a fun five mile trip.

This experience was breathtakingly beautiful and I could not get enough of the landscape we were able to see, the ducks in the river, and even the eagles and birds flying all around. The trip was about a 3 hour ride down the river. What's great about Lander's River Trips is that you are able to be picked up from the Villa Roma to get to the trip!

5) One word.... Woodstock!

If you are a huge fan of the music that came out of the 60s, then you must know about the Woodstock Festival in 1969. The Woodstock Music and Arts Festival was held in Bethel Woods, and when you visit, you get to see the home of where Woodstock happened all of those years ago!

There is an incredible museum of everything you can imagine from Woodstock. You learn the story of how Woodstock came to be by going through the Museum at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts.

You also can tour the grounds where the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival happened and where they have their current outdoor concert venue! Visiting the museum and getting to tour the grounds was such an incredible experience and I would highly recommend coming to visit. This was certainly a must-see for our trip!

Visiting the Sullivan Catskills was such an amazing experience and I can't wait to bring my family up to experience all of the fun we had at The Kartrite Resort, the Villa Roma, Lander's River Trips, and the Bethel Center for the Arts. The Sullivan Catskills are a hidden gem and there is so much that everyone in the family can enjoy in any season! Ready to plan your vacation? Book your trip to the Sullivan Catskills today!
